OTC dental products
Below are links to information on OTC mouth guards, night guards, and dental products often suggested at NEIAPD.
Included in this PDF are OTC mouth guard & night guard options to try at home.

If you suspect your child is experiencing symptoms related to nighttime clenching and grinding, an OTC night guard can be a low-cost option to try.
If symptoms improve, talk with your dentist about transitioning to a custom night guard.

Also included are mouth guard options for children/teens who are in the transitional dentition and/or are in active orthodontic treatment.
These are good options while your child's teeth are changing, as many youth contact sports require mouth guards.
We are often asked about recommended dental products. Included in this PDF are frequently suggested dental products for home use.

Some of our office's favorites:
Toothpaste: Hello brand (contains fluoride, SLS free, available at Walmart), Tanner's Tasty Vanilla Bling (kids love the flavor, SLS free)
For children with taste and texture sensitivities: OraNurse and Dr. Bob's

Floss: Gum Chucks (office favorite, available online), Glide/ribbon floss for "tight" contacts

***A common inactive ingredient in toothpastes is "sodium lauryl sulfate."
While this increases the toothpastes abrasiveness (making it more effective in removing sticky plaque), it can cause more frequent outbreaks of aphthous ulcers (i.e. canker sores).
Choosing an SLS free toothpaste can be very helpful in helping reduce canker sores outbreaks.
